I hit hundreds of balls on the range but never seem to get much better

If you're hitting hundreds of golf balls at the range without improvement, it might be due to ineffective practice. Here are some tips to help you practice smarter and see progress:

1. Set Clear Goals

  • Identify specific areas: Do you struggle with driving, iron play, or short game? Focus your practice on those areas.

  • Break your sessions into purposeful segments (e.g., driving, approach shots, chipping, and putting).

2. Quality Over Quantity Hitting Balls on the Range

  • Hitting fewer balls with proper technique and focus is more effective than mindlessly hitting hundreds.

  • Take breaks between shots to simulate on-course conditions and avoid fatigue affecting your swing.

3. Use a Routine

  • Treat each shot on the range like a real shot on the course. Go through your pre-shot routine, visualize the target, and commit to the swing.

4. Practice With Feedback

  • Use tools like alignment sticks, launch monitors, or mirrors to ensure you're practicing the right mechanics.

  • Record your swing to identify flaws or inconsistencies.

5. Work on One Thing at a Time

  • Focus on a single aspect of your swing or game during each practice session. Avoid overwhelming yourself with multiple swing thoughts.

6. Simulate Course Scenarios

  • Instead of hitting the same club repeatedly, simulate holes by alternating clubs and targeting different distances.

7. Take Lessons

  • A qualified golf coach can pinpoint flaws in your technique and help you develop an improvement plan tailored to your needs.

8. Track Progress

  • Keep a journal of your practice sessions and track improvements. Note what drills worked and how you feel about your swing.

9. Physical Conditioning

  • Ensure your body is in good shape to support a consistent swing. Flexibility, core strength, and balance are particularly important for golf.
